I decided to buy and read this book as a tribute to Penny Jordan.

The heroine Felicia has been seeing Faisal for a while and they both hope to marry, however Faisal comes from a traditional Arab family and fears that they will not approve. Felicia travels to Kuwait to meet Faisal's family and hopefully gain their approval for marriage, especially the approval from Faisal's uncle Raschid, the hero, whom is the head of the family. However when she meets Raschid it is clear that he has a very poor opinion of her. As time passes, Felicia struggles to deal with the almost constant scorn from Raschid, the restrictions on her actions as a woman in the East, as well as her worry that her relationship with Faisal isn't at all what it should be. But she falls in love with the country and it's beauty, and soon realises that beneath her hostility to the way Raschid treats her is a fierce desire for him. As her love grows Felicia knows that he will never love her back and that her time in the country that has touched her heart will soon be over.

This is an intense, almost suspenseful, book and one that is exactly what Penny Jordan does best. Considering this book was written in 1981, it is quite a forward book. It also deals with the differences between east and west cultures really well. Raschid is the perfect 'classic' Mills & Boon hero; he treads the line between cruel and kind, and is so very smouldering that he really makes the sexual tension in this book thick. The heroine did have a propensity for self-pity, but I found her quite endearing. Throughout the book, I really couldn't see how these two would ever find a way to be together, and that is what makes this a brilliant book, it keeps you guessing.

It is hard to believe that this was Penny Jordan's first book, it is so accomplished! She will be missed.

The hero Marco arrives at the heroine Amber's home demanding to see his son. Amber has no idea who he is and why he seems to think she has his son, until Marco calms down enough to show her a letter he thinks is from her. The letter is actually from Amber's rather irresponsible sister, whom had a one-night stand with Marco a few years back and she doesn't know for sure who the father of her little boy is. Amber's sister regrets sending the letter and asks Amber to pretend it was a lie, but Marco is not fooled. But he does agree not to pursue the paternity issue if Amber will marry him. Amber agrees and goes with him to his home in Venezuela, but she struggles to settle in as well as finding it difficult to trust Marco. Marco tries his best to help Amber adjust, as well as giving her time to get used to the desire that is between them. He has waited so long to have a wife and family to cherish, and he cares for Amber so he doesn't want to scare her away. But Amber still can't help feeling trapped, even as her feelings for Marco grow.

I can understand why this book has a few bad reviews, it is certainly a little 'out there', but I really liked it. I thought the hero had a wonderful blend of true alpha-ness and compassion. Amber was a little weak as a heroine, but I did kind of like her. The plot itself is a little silly in it's farfetchedness but it is also interesting and quite emotional to read. The surroundings of Venezuelan nature are beautifully described and full of richness.

This is a sweet, complex, and emotional book.

The heroine Annie is shocked and devastated to learn that her beloved son is not actually her's after a mix up  at the hospital where she gave birth, which led to a baby switch. To make matters worse the person whose baby she has, and who has her's, is Brant, the hero, whom is her former boss and one time one-night-stand. It is a very difficult and emotional time for both of them, and Brant offers Annie support. He has never forgotten the night they spent together, at the time he had wanted to continue seeing her but the next morning Annie had left and he had later discovered his ex-girlfriend was pregnant. They both know that their son's need parents, Brant asks Annie to marry him knowing that the chemistry between them is still there. Annie is confused over her feelings towards Brant and the very stressful recent events, plus anguished about the secret she is keeping from Brant.

This is a very, very emotional book and I thought it was quite enjoyable. The baby-switch plot is a little implausible but I think it was written well and believable, in a way. The interaction between the hero and heroine is perfect for the overall mood of the book. I really felt their relationship was real, and that they grew as characters as the story progressed. And I have to say that this was so refreshing to read as it didn't have your usual hero-blackmailing-heroine plot.

A very emotional and poignant book. Awful title though...

The hero Raul is frantically searching for his missing niece and nephew and he eventually tracks them down at the heroine Nell's, where they had run away to. Nell used to be their nanny, and had been good friends with their father, Raul's brother. Raul has never approved of Nell as he always thought that she and his brother were having an affair, however he knows the children have been having trouble adjusting after the death of their father so he asks Nell to care for them once again. Nell agrees despite her nervousness over Raul's very obvious dislike for her. Soon Raul realises he is drawn to Nell and very attracted to her. They end up indulging in the desire between them, and Raul is shocked and humbled to learn that he has been wrong about Nell all along. Nell, however, is confused over her feelings for Raul, and thinking he is involved with someone else she leaves without word. She later discovers she is pregnant but decides to go it alone, having no idea that Raul has been looking for her.

This is a bit of a frustrating book. The plot idea is interesting and I think it had potential to be really good, but it didn't live up to expectation. I found the hero rather cruel to the heroine, and since he had a girlfriend/companion already his pursuit of the heroine was really crappy. The heroine is a little too doormat-y for me and everything seemed so melodramatic and silly. The story itself is, well, dull.

Sadly disappointing.

The story begins with the hero Theo arriving home to discover his sister having a party, it is there he meets the heroine Willow. Theo is enthralled by Willow's gentle and shy nature and they spend the night together. However, circumstance and the actions of Theo's ex cause Willow to leave, and Theo is left frustrated as he felt that there was something between him and Willow. Ten years later and Theo is beyond pleased to see Willow again and surprised to learn that she is a very successful writer now. Willow can't hider her shock, and fear, at seeing Theo again and she is even more shocked when he tells her he wants to have a relationship with her. But Willow's skittish behaviour arouses Theo's suspicions and he is livid when he discovers she has a son, his son. He wants to be a part of his son's life and he knows in his heart that he and Willow belong together. But Willow finds it difficult to trust him again despite the passion between them.

I really enjoyed this book, it is full of emotion and very well written. I adored the hero Theo, he is totally alpha and yes, at times, he behaved badly but I really felt he cared for the heroine and wanted a chance to fall in love with her. Willow is an interesting heroine, quite complex with a very shy and introverted personality, I really responded to her. OK, the plot is a little clichéd, but it is done really well.

Overall, this is an interesting and well written book.

I have a bunch of books on my kindle that I bought during the summer and never got round to reading... oops! I'm going to try and work my way through them instead of buying more in the very tempting kindle sale!

The heroine Ivy arrives in Mexico to start filming a movie role of her dreams, although her arrive is less than pleasant after having to get on a deathtrap of a bus out to the middle of nowhere, and then her luggage goes missing. Waiting for her at the location is the hero Garrett, an ex special ops agent whose escape from a South American drug cartel is the subject of the movie. Garrett has been waiting for his chance to meet Ivy ever since he first saw her meet her injured brother in a military hospital where Garrett was recovering. Although the event never actually happened, Ivy is to play the supposed love interest of Garrett's character. When she struggles to get her character right she asks for Garrett's help. Their attraction to one another is fierce and pretty soon they give into their desire. However, Ivy still has not idea about Garrett's love for her and the role he playing in her getting the part.

I really enjoyed this book, it literally ticked all the boxes of what makes a good Blaze. I thought the hero and heroine bounced of each other well; their interactions are entertaining and the passion is blazing (no pun intended)! I simply adored the hero, sigh, he was so open and giving to the heroine, and his love for her felt totally genuine. The plot is fantastic, so well thought out and interesting. The start reminded me of Romancing the Stone and had me laughing!

This book manages to be both hot and tender at the same time, and I loved it!

The heroine Shari agrees to go to Mumbai and pose as her best friend Rita, and use her brashness in an attempt to scare off Rita's arranged fiancé. However an idea that initially seems a hoot soon turns into a bit of a headache for Shari. Not only does she have Rita's crazy Aunt constantly feeding her delicious yet fattening food, but Rita's intended Rakesh has figured out the plan and agrees to go along with it providing Shari will introduce him to Rita. Rakesh's business partner Drew, the hero, also knows Shari is faking it as Rita but seems to think she is some sort of con-artist/gold-digger. And if that is not enough Shari has also gained an admirer whom thinks she is a famous Bollywood actress. All this results in Shari having an amazing, if rather crazy, time discovering her Indian roots whilst landing a part as an extra, and falling in love with Drew.

I thoroughly enjoyed this, a lot more than I thought I would. The plot is so quirky that it is rip-roaringly fun to read. I love the eclecticness (is that a word?!) of the situations Shari seems to find herself in. Fun is the word here, and the entire book is! The romance is nice, but what is most special about this book is the solid friendship between Shari and Rita that is constant throughout the book.
The first person narrative is full of snark and  self-deprecation that is humorous and witty, and I found it highly entertaining to read. The heroine's nickname habit did get on my nerves after a while, but I think it fit her zany character well. The culture and surroundings of Mumbai are beautifully described, and the food sounds mouthwatering!
Shari really does go on a journey, both a literal one and one of self-discovery and enjoyed every minute of it with her.

Nicola Marsh has done a fab job of writing a fun, rom-come style book that is very endearing.

This is my first book of the new year!

The heroine Tina is on her way to her sister's wedding with her mother and son, and she is shocked to run into Ari, the hero. Six years ago, Tina and Ari had a fling, which meant much more to Tina and she was left heartbroken when Ari ended it saying it meant nothing to him. She was also left pregnant and made the decision to raise her son Theo alone. When Ari learns about Theo he knows her wants to be a part of his son's life, and the best way is for him and Tina to be married. However, Tina refuses as she knows all about Ari's lack of staying power and will not put herself, or her son, in that position. Ari tries to manipulate Tina into agreeing, and the more time he spends with her the more he sees how perfect she is for him, and that he was a fool to let her go. Eventually, Ari realises that manipulation will not work with Tina, and instead he offers her a deal that would mean complete security for her should their marriage not work out. Tina is tempted, but worried that she will end up heartbroken again. Although she can't deny or ignore the desire that is still between them.

This is a very strange book, and I'm not quite sure if I liked it or not. I didn't really believe the love story between the hero and heroine, it felt a little forced. The hero, in my opinion, is a bit of a dick. He is too manipulative, and acted like he never did anything wrong. Plus it was never very far from his mind that if their marriage turned sour, or if the heroine couldn't satisfying him, then he could cheat - that is not what I want to read from a hero. I liked the heroine though, she had a backbone, thank goodness.
The closing chapters took place over a period of a year, yet so much happened that it ended up feeling very rushed and rather odd. I wonder if the book should have started at this point and these events being the main focus of the book...

Not a great book, but quick to read and OK.

This is the last festive read, I feel the need to forget about Christmas until December rolls round again!

The heroine Dylan and the hero Ross meet after he sees her dancing, he is totally captivated by her. It is virtually love at first sight for both of them. Their whirlwind romance leads to marriage and Dylan willingly giving up her ballet career, much to her dance partners disgust. However much Dylan and Ross's marriage is full of passion for one another, the remote location of their home and Ross's busy working life are hard for Dylan and she soon becomes lonely. When Dylan becomes pregnant, Ross seems to pull even further away from her and she can't help feeling that their marriage was a mistake.

I don't really know what to say about this book. I expected a lot more from it, especially from Charlotte Lamb, but I was sadly disappointed. There is no POV from the hero and I found it difficult to actually believe the relationship. The heroine is a very unsympathetic character, she comes across as very immature and whiny. This book is basically about the heroines insecurities, and not much else. The great misunderstanding was obvious, I saw it coming a mile off.
I also found the writing style very difficult to get into, there is a lot of telling not showing and the pace is rather odd.

As I said, disappointing.

This is an older American Romance book that has been reissued as an ebook.

The hero Colter is doing his best to raise his beloved daughter Ellie by himself, however she is desperate to have a mother and believes that Santa will bring her one for Christmas. The heroine Marisa has never forgotten the happiness she found in Colter's arms eight years ago, nor has she forgotten her devastation after her controlling mother forced her to leave him, and the later loss of her stillborn baby. Seeing Colter again and his beautiful daughter reminds her of everything she lost. She attempts to talk to him but she doesn't expect his anger. Colter has never forgiven Marisa for the way she left him and warns her to stay away from him. But Marisa can't accept that, as she needs to tell him the real reason she left and the tragic events that happened after. Eventually he listens but this results in some very traumatic secrets being revealed that rocks both Colter and Marisa's lives. And even though they still love one another deeply, the pain of the past will stop them from being together.

I really enjoyed this book, but wow, it is so intense! The plot of this book is so heartbreaking, you'll need tissues, and very poignantly written. I couldn't put it down! The 'big reveal' was shocking and I was completely not expecting it, I think the author did a great job in making this book a little unpredictable. Yes, perhaps the plot is a little contrived and relies on a series of coincidences, but I really liked it. The hero and heroine are both flawed characters but also sympathetic, which makes them three dimensional. I really felt they went on a journey together throughout the book, and that is very satisfying to read.
My only complaint is that I feel that some issues were too easily, and neatly, resolved and it felt too convenient for me.

Nevertheless, this is a deeply emotional and heart-warming story that will keep you guessing.

The heroine Giselle, or Lily, is looking forward to spending Christmas with her brother in Rome. But nothing seems to go right for her from the start of her trip, ending with Lily arriving, completely unaware, at the home of Count Dmitri, the hero, her brother's boss. Dmitri informs Lily that her bother is not in Rome as he has run off with Dmitri's sister, apparently in order to get married. Dmitri is livid, not only does he not approve of Lily's brother, but his sister also has an arranged marriage. Lily is shocked to learn about her brother's actions but makes it clear that she will not tolerate Dmitri's poor opinion about him. But worst of all is that Dmitri attempts to keep Lily sort-of hostage thinking that she will be the link to her brother. However Dmitri was not counting on the fact that he would find Lily so alluring and there would be a mutual desire between them. Lily helps Dmitri to look past his initial anger regarding his sister, and as he shows Lily around the wonders of Rome they begin to fall for one another and spend a glorious night together, not knowing what the morning will bring.

This is a very enjoyable and emotional book. The attraction between the hero and heroine is really well portrayed, and there is plenty of sexual tension. I love the feistiness and backbone of the heroine, she has such sparkle and really makes this story. For me, the hero is more difficult to like, he is written as a bit too snobby and judgemental for my liking. I don't feel there is enough explanation regarding his anger at his sister's actions given, which left the story a little lacking.
The relationship between the hero and heroine felt very real though, even over the short peroid of time that the books takes place over, that is definitely a plus!

This is a well written and emotional book, and I enjoyed it.

I'm trying to read only Christmas themed books before New Year. Although the reviews probably won't be posted until after!

The hero Ryan has never really noticed Jamie, the heroine, apart from as his irreplaceable secretary. However, when she is suddenly stressed and ruffled, he has the urge to make her open up to him. Jamie refuses, wanting to keep her personal and business lives separate. But Ryan is very determined and turns up at her home while she is in the middle of an argument with her irresponsible sister, whom turned up on Jamie's doorstep bringing marital problems with her. Ryan finds this more human side of Jamie very appealing and tries to help her get through this difficult period, much to Jamie's annoyance. Ryan takes Jamie to his family's Caribbean home for business, and a break. While there, they both realise their attraction for one another, which eventually leads to them starting a short term affair. But Jamie knows she is in danger of falling in love with Ryan, so when he suggests they continue to see each other back home she immediately breaks things off.

I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did (the last Cathy Williams book I read was awful), but this is an enjoyable read. It has a nice flow and a good, solid, if somewhat clichéd plot. Both characters are well written and matched, with some nice chemistry.
This would have been a three-and-a-half star book had it not been for two things. First - the hero's conflict and reasons for not wanting a relationship are, quite frankly, really lame. This really let the book down. And second - at times the hero acted like a spoilt and patronising dick, which was totally out of character compared to the rest of his personality.

Anyway, this is a nice festive read.

It has been a while since I have read a Blaze, this one has been on my shelf for a while so I thought I would give it a go.

The heroine Ainsley is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the hero Luke for his grandfather's funeral. Eight years ago Ainsley and Luke had been in love as teenagers, however their relationship ended when Luke left without word, leaving Ainsley broken hearted, abandoned by her father, and pregnant. Ainsley had married Luke's twin brother for security, which Luke was not happy about when he heart, however an accident resulted in the death of Ainsley's husband and the loss of the baby. Ainsley has never truly gotten over this loss but has managed to build a good life for herself managing her in-law's Orchard, now owned by Luke. She knows Luke coming home will mean the end of this, not only will Luke sell the only happy home she has ever known but him being back will bring back all the painful memories. As well as the fierce attraction that still burns between them. Luke know he hurt Ainsley by leaving, and he is devastated to learn the truth of the situation he left her in. He tries to stay away not wanting to hurt her again, but he can't stop thinking about her. Their reconnection is hot and heavy, but loaded with pain that is just waiting to explode.

I was surprised by the level of angst and emotion in this book, for a Blaze I mean. But it really created a very intense mood, making the moments of passion incredibly poignant. The love scenes manage to be blazing hot, as you would want and expect from a Blaze, but also full of emotion and not at all gratuitous. The backstory is introduced well and helps create depth of feeling between the hero and heroine.
If I have one complaint, it is that while the hero full admits to acting awful in the past he never really apologies for it, and that kinda didn't sit well for me.

But, this is a nice read; emotional and hot! Just what I needed on a cold December day!

This is the fabulous Rachael Johns's debut, I have been chomping at the bit to read it. It was my over Christmas read.

The hero Cameron first sees the heroine Peppa when she is the children's entertainer during the office Christmas party. When he approaches her he has not idea she is actually one of his employees, but he is very intrigued by her. Although he is not pleased when she admits to accidentally causing damage to his car, but spotting his moment to get to know her further he asks her to go with him to his family's party. Peppa is very, very attracted to Cameron, but is still getting over a difficult break-up and reluctant to get involved. However, neither of them can deny the desire simmering between them and they end up spending the night together, which quickly turns into an agreed short term affair. As Peppa and Cameron grow closer, Peppa becomes more and more frustrated by Cameron's refusal to open up emotionally to her. And Cameron feels the ever growing involvement with Peppa is a betrayal to his late wife. Everything comes crashing down eventually, with devastating results.

I thought this book was brilliant, and I enjoyed every word of it. This book is so much more than the title and blurb leads you to believe; it is deep, wrought with emotion and passion, as well as being touching, funny and flirty. The plot itself is a well used one, but Rachael Johns has managed to 'modern-it-up', with some individual touches and a writing style that makes me smile. Both the hero and heroine are well matched and there is plenty of pizazz to their individual personalities. Peppa is particularly appealing as she has plenty of sass (and I am so glad she stood up to the hero and kicked him out during a certain scene! I like my heroines to have a backbone!).
The issues raised, such as night terrors, bereavement, infertility, are handled well but don't overcrowd the actual story. This gives the book depth and a nice balance with the focus still on the romance.

This is a fun book to read, yet also very emotional. I think the word 'lovely' suits this book perfectly! I can't wait to read future stuff from Rachael.

This is another book from the Harlequin Treasury line.

At the beginning of the book the hero Boyd is witness to a car accident that leaves the heroine Stacy injured and her estranged and violent ex-husband dead. Boyd helps her to stay calm but when he realises she is heavily pregnant he is reminded of his trauma when he lost his wife and unborn child. Even though he doesn't want to get involved, Boyd finds himself drawn to Stacy and offers her help, which even though she tries to refuse he knows she desperately needs. Stacy struggles with her emotions over the recent events in her life, but knows she needs to stay strong for her beloved unborn child. The light in her otherwise bleak recovery is Boyd, and Stacy can't help but fall for him. She accepts Boyd's help and as they spend time together they begin to grow closer and closer. But Boyd can't let himself give in to his growing feelings for Stacy as he can't get over his thoughts that he is betraying his wife's memory.

Wow, this book is very angsty but still totally enjoyable. The relationship between the hero and heroine develops gradually and so beautifully, it feels real and is enthralling to read. The hero and heroine are two brilliant characters, both individually and together, and they are written with real depth. I do feel that the heroine 'got over' the death of her ex-husband a little too quickly, but there was enough backstory given to accept this. Boyd is a wonderfully complex hero, but at times I was confused over his feelings towards his past marriage - sometimes it was the perfect marriage and nothing could hold a candle to it, and other times it was a mismatch relationship that had more downs than ups. It is a little confusing to me.

Overall, this is a very emotional and enjoyable book.

I have one big complaint though - there is a lot of errors in the text of this book, which is very off putting. This seemed to be errors from when, I presume, the text was scanned in and character recognition. One example that is almost constant throughout is that the letters r and i when together were mistaken for an n, so we had charity being chanty and Mario being Mano etc. There are other mistakes but it would take me a while to go through them all! This needs a proof read, mistakes like this are very disappointing.

This is Kate Hewitt's latest book, I have been looking forward to reading it. I had a feeling it was going to be good...!

The hero Sergei and the heroine Hannah meet when Sergei helps Hannah after she is pick pocketed while sightseeing in Red Square. Hannah is left stranded after realising her passport is missing, and despite his misgivings Sergei can't help but feel bad for the seemingly innocent Hannah so he decides to helps her. Sergei also realises he can't get her out of his head and, desperate for a respite from the stress in his life, he asks her to dinner knowing it will result in them spending the night together. Hannah also wants an escape from the recent disappointments in her life but at the last moment Sergei realises he can't go through with it, leaving Hannah humiliated. A year later and Sergei is still thinking about Hannah, and after many battles with himself he goes to see her. They finally give into the passion that is between the, and begin a very hot and heavy affair. But Hannah soon finds that Sergei refuses to open his heart to anyone, including her.

This is such a wonderful and emotional book, I couldn't put it down. The whole book has a fairy tale feel, but still very modern, which in my opinion is very appealing. Sergei is a great hero; totally alpha and deliciously tortured. Kate Hewitt writes some of the best tortured heroes, and Sergei is no exception, my heart was breaking for him at times. The story has a nice pace, I particularly liked that the relationship developed over time even though the hero and heroine were not actually together.

Some of the charm of this book lies in the fact that a lot of the book is, let's face it, implausible but it is executed so well I couldn't help but enjoy it.

I have been looking forward to for this book finally making it's way to the top of the TBR Pile!

The hero Nico sees the heroine Connie for the first time as she is about to get married. There is something about her that he can't stop thinking about and when he sees her again, crying her eyes out, he offers her comfort. Connie is feeling humiliated after discovering the truth about her new husband, and doesn't know what to do, fearing disapproval from her family should she decide to end the arranged marriage. But one thing she is sure of is that she wants to take the comfort that Nico is offering in his arms. They spend a wonderful night together, indulging in the fantasy of what it would have been like had they met each other first. Although it is a difficult decision, her night with Nico gives Connie the confidence to end her sham marriage, however she is left abandoned by her family and pregnant. Nico finds her a year later where she is struggling to cope with caring for her baby and making a living. In the year since they have been apart Nico has discovered shocking secrets about his life and throughout it all he has never forgotten Connie. He takes her back home with him to help her recover, and although he is not ready to acknowledge that Connie's baby is his Nico knows the truth in his heart and that he and Connie belong together.

I loved this book, it had me hooked from the very first page. The plot is original and enjoyably unpredictable. Carol Marinelli has managed to include a wonderful blend of happiness and darkness that really creates depth in this story. The journey that the hero and heroine go on, both individually and together, is simply spectacular. It is a true masterpiece! And, this book has, hands down, the best love scene I have ever read (and I have read a LOT of love scenes!), it is hot and so very romantic, I couldn't help but sigh at the beautiful and evocative writing.

This is a brilliant book; full of emotion and is Carol Marinelli at her best. Recommended.

RIP Penny Jordan...

Penny Jordan is a true legend in the field of romance writing and her death on the last day of 2011 was very sad to hear.

I know her books have inspired many readers and writers over the years, including myself. She will be missed but I know she will live on in her work.

I am currently reading her first ever M&B book, Falcon's Prey, in remembrance of her.

A New Year could mean a New You...

Happy New Year to you all!

As we race into 2012 I'm sure you are all still recovering from the Christmas period, probably trying to tidy your house from all the celebrations, if you have children trying to bring them down from all the Christmas highs and get their minds into the new School term, and making resolutions that are days/hours/minutes away from being broken. 

There are lots to look forward to in 2012, I think! 

Well, we here in the UK have the Olympics if that's your thing (it's not mine, I plan to hibernate for the period as I live in an area where there are going to be quite a few training facilities!). We also have the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Euro 2012, which I'm sure will mean that everyone in England will get hyped up and excited and convince themselves we have a chance at winning, and end up disappointed when we are knocked out on penalties, oh the cynicism! There is also a solar eclipse happening at some point in the year, best seen by those in Australia. 

Er...

Oh, not forgetting the US Presidential Election, which I always find very exciting! It's always much more glamorous and gritty than our elections.

That's everything I can think of right now, so on that note I'm going to put my hopes and goals for the forthcoming year.

1 - Finish my 365 books in 365 days challenge (which ends in March, btw), hopefully successfully. 

2 - Complete and submit 'Upfront Centre Stage' by the end of the year.

3 - Develop and begin another MS

4 - Lost 30lb by summer - am going to Florida, I need to shift it!

5 - Have new kitchen and bathroom fitted, it's long overdue!

6 - Hope that my husband and I are blessed with the chance to have our own family, either naturally or through adoption, which we have just started the process for. Infertility treatment is also something that I will be looking at in the New Year (more on that anther time!)

7 - Most of all I wish for peace. Not world peace, I'm realistic, but a calmer world. 2011 wasn't a great year and I hope that 2012 will be the year in which we learn to live in a little more harmony with others.

The hero Will has inherited his father's estate, including a very large and well know jewellery collection. He takes a few items to Bella, the heroine, for valuation and there is an immediate spark between them. But his interest in Bella is put on hold when Bella informs him that some of the items have been tampered with. Eventually though the attraction returns and when Bella admits it is mutual it results in a passionate, albeit brief, encounter. But however much Bella enjoyed it, she knows Will isn't looking for commitment and she is looking for Mr Right. Will knows he shouldn't pursue Bella but he can't ignore the fierce desire he feels for her, and asks for her help restoring some of the jewellery and it's not long before they begin an affair. Strictly temporary. Bella soon realises her mistake as her feelings for Will turn to love, something that he can never give her.

I was surprised by the darkness in the book. Dark in comparison to Lucy King's 'The Crown Affair', which I read recently, which had a more flirty and fun mood. But this is a brilliant book, and I really enjoyed it. Bella is a fabulous heroine; quirky, fun, and interesting. She is the perfect balm to Will's brooding and damaged personality. The sexual tension is so thick you could almost cut it, and *that* scene in the back on the limo is scorching! The story itself is deep, emotional and interesting, and very well written.

Full of sass as well as emotion, all in Lucy King's very unique and utterly compelling style. I loved it!
